Purchased a 3600X to replace my 2600 (was on MM and thought why not).

After running my 2600 for quite some time under a Alpenfohn Brocken 2 (one with 2 x 140mm fans), I never saw temps go above 65 degrees. That was under extreme case of a Prime torture test (small FFT's to generate maximum heat), so gaming sessions would get no where near that.

Dropped the 3600X in and under the test, in the same system, I saw temps of 91 degrees!

Now, I only had a tiny amount of thermal compound left and did the rice grain in the centre method. Recalling that the CPU die wasn't central in these CPU's, I thought the amount of thermal compound wasn't enough to begin with and as a consequence, didn't spread sufficiently to the areas where it's needed when the heatsink was installed.

Ordered some more compound and reapplied using the five dot method.

Retested using the Prime torture test and load temps improved; maximum reached was now 82 degrees. It idles at around 30 degrees so wondering if those are what you would expect?

Gaming sessions and other general use gets nowhere near that 82 degrees reading, so part of me thinks I should stop worrying.
