Looks like reasonable improvement in some games, a hindrance in others and tanks work performance if you have more than 8 cores

So what does Ryzen Turbo Mode do: At a base level it disables SMT (hyperthreading) and disables the second CCD. On Gigabyte boards so far only, Turbo Mode also tunes your RAM.

Honestly, Turbo Mode seems like a mixed bag. Disabling SMT and the second CCD might help in certain games, but I’d imagine it could hurt performance if you’re pushing more than 8 cores. The RAM tuning is a nice touch, though, if you’re on a Gigabyte board.

not on X3d, the X3d cache is on the first CCD only. and SMT if you have 8 cores plus on a game that doesn't want over 8 threads(most but not all) as been shows to give good gains

Can't you just do this manually? Like turn off smt and the 2nd ccd yourself? Just seems like a roundabout way to do something we already know how to do. Still though, if you can do it programatically instead of in the bios then it's good

I'd say there's a decent place for some management engine, in the BIOS or wherever, talking to the CPU and seeing "ok, 4 of 8/12/16 cores just got LIT THE **** UP! :o I'll disable the others so we can give those more headroom and stay within thermal/voltage/ampage limits" and is able to step in and re-enable the other cores on the fly too once needs are more multi-threaded.

If turbo is perma turning a core off, yeah, less point.
