I just completed Clear Sky and had an ok time with it, just a few things annoyed me or put me off it a little at times. I fancy another FPS/RPG type game and i dont know if i should go with s.t.a.l.k.e.r. shadow of chernobyl. Ive heard its better than clear sky but how? what are the differences? does it need as many patches as clear sky?

Also anyone have any other suggestions for the type of game im lookin for? bearing in mind ive already played system shock, deus ex, fallout 3, bioshock and a few of the elder scrolls games.

Just get SoC and be done with it. It's simply a (slightly) better game, and well worth a go. The first time you encounter a bloodsucker will make you wet your pants, which is just about the best/worst memory I have of the game. The best way to play it is late at night with the lights off and wearing headphones.

SoC will run better too, and I had minimal issues with it when I played through it. However, DO NOT simply rely on quicksaves, as my game came unstuck due to a corrupt QS file.

It's probably better to have played CS first aswell due to it being the preceding 'part' of the series in storyline terms.

Another idea, play SoC with the Stalker Complete 2009 mod - it changed everything for me, and suddenly I wanted to play it though to the end rather than giving up when some glitch shows up :p

This. Though I thought the Controllers were worse, and there's only about three of them in the game so you're never prepared for it :D

the biggest differences you will see are:

no techies to repair/upgrade weapons/armour - so once your weapons & armour degrade there is no way to bring them back
artifacts do not have to be hunted down - they sit on the surface in plain (sometimes hard to see tho') view.

the patch v1.0005 [Worldwide] should be the only one you need to do.
this is available at Multiplay UK in their fileplay area.

there are a load of mods to the game which make it a lot of fun to play.
I would suggest only doing them after you have played the game through.
there are mods that allow the 'shopkeepers' to repair armour/weapons (not upgrade tho')
there's a mod that has Sidorivich sell all the weapons and armour in the game.

I am running three mods on mine - Oblivion Lost, Complete 2009 and repair mod.

in terms of what is better - I would have to say Shadow edges it for me because of the secret end.
