Hey guys can all of you STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (SSOC)experts please lend a hand :(

Im a newbie to the game and found the SSOC thread on here at OcUK but could not find the answer. I just got the game the other day. I loaded it up and then updated it to Patch 1.5. After a long trawl through the SSOC websites I got some cool mods. All of them worked fine except the one I REALLY wanted to work (its always like that isnt it!). This one:

Faiakes Mod v2.4. Details:
http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/stalkershadowofchernobyl/mod/17808.html?details=1

In a nutshell: SSOC refuses to start with this mod. The splash screen flashes up and stays there for about 5 seconds and then vanishes. Absolutely no HDD activity either.

I took the precaution of successively backing up the gamedata folder as it was modded and when I went back to the most recent one the game started just fine. So its definetly something this Faiakes Mod v2.4 is doing that SSOC doesnt like...well at least on my machine anyways. Another confusing thing for me is that if you go to the site above they say Now compatible with patch 1.0004

But yet (unless I've missed the plot) I seem to see gamers with SSOC V 1.5 using this mod?

Im sure some of you lot have got it running just fine. If you have pleaaaaseeee heeeeeeeeeeelllp I cant wait to play this game with this mod as it looks really good

If it will help heres a list of the contents of the gamedata\config folder before & after I applied the mod. Am I messing something up? As you can see the mod added a lot more stuff!

Thanks!!

Hmm, a strange one, this, mod data isn't actually loaded until you get passed the menu and start/load a game, if it fails then it will write a log of the error in either the shared user folder or /SSOC folder, I can't remember, but it's one of the two.
Refusal to get there indicates a problem with the game in general.
Try uninstalling it all, reinstalling, and starting w/o any patching done.
If that works, try incrementally installing the patches 1.0001 > 1.0002 etc etc, trying after each patch and seeing if it loads, you can install the mod later, and don't have to do it 'off the bat' so to speak. Try up to 1.0005 an see how you get along.

I have silimar problems, only upon reinstall I tried to see if v1.0 would work.

No go. The splash screen shows up, disappears, and then nothing. I've reinstalled the game more times than I care to remember and in different folders. Patched it to v1.004 which didn't change anything either. Ideas?

I re-installed this yesterday also with the intention of running faikes mod. Patched game to 1..04 with the single 19meg 1.004 patch file, applied both the faikes 2.4 mod and the separate patch to the mod, but it won't start a game, just dumps me to desktop after clicking on "new game". Tried several things but no joy. Installed the ABC mod instead and it works fine.

Cancel that, I think I have a culprit. Found out there is a switch to start the game that made it work, all of a sudden:

-dsound

Forces the game to start with directsound as opposed to openAL. I'm assuming that means I don't get EAX or 5.1 or anything fancy (what the hell is the point in buying a Creative XFI if games don't start up with it?), but it is a start to working out what to do. Maybe update the openAL.dll files if I can, and if that fails it's time for new sound drivers I suppose. Anyone have any experience with creative X-Fi cards?
