Well I am taking this as a failure and a learning experience.
I have had the S1 sitting in the cupboard for awhile and after buying some cleaning fluid, tape and compound decided to have a go at fitting it to my Sapphire 4870 512
I used

To help me
Card dismantled, had to go to b&q to get a screw driver for the heat sink screws
All the gear ready to go, cleaned up
My little soldiers ready to go, I used Akasa to stick them on, seem ok but was a little disappointed on the hold it gave
I decided to clean off the compound from the S1 this may have been a mistake and lead to the issues I had later.
All fitted and ready to go
Sorry for the bad pic camera seems to do that every now and then, from the orginal forum topic I know some people had to mod the last ram heatsink so I did as well, seem to work well
Fitted into the PC, now it worked first time was really pleased as the 4870 is the noisest part of my PC and it was now silent, then I checked out the temps.
With the standard cooler it never goes above 80, and at first it seem that the S1 was doing the same, but then the temps climbed. I shutdown the PC when they hit 89 C
I dismantled and replace the compound on the chip and gave the screws another tweek.
Refitted I powered it back up and watched. This time I shutdown as the card neared the 95 C mark
So the card is back to normal and the S1 is back in its box. This hasn't put me off replacing the stock cooler and I know people have had good results with the S1, maybe its not for me.
Well I hope this helps anyone else wanting to replace the cooler, as someone who has never done this before it was fun and easier than I thought even if it did not go the way I planned.
