I've pretty much narrowed my replacement monitor search to these two.

The temptation to have monitor with a built in freeview has passed, as I'll feed it freeview from another source.

My current kit has a 8800GT driving it, and I had wondered whether I should include a replace the vid card in the mix esp if switching to the s2409.

Aside from the IPS vs TN argument, what recommendations are there? I do have a temptation to go bluray, which leads me to the 2409.

Is the fact its a TN panel much of an issue??

Thanks chaps!!

Well, regardless of image quality and the capabilities of your graphics card you can rule out the 2209wa. It's a great screen but it only has vga and DVI inputs so it's not suited to your requirements.

If you read this review you will see that the 2209WA is great for blu ray.

If the OP feeds the TV in via a DVB-T TV card and uses an internal Blu ray reader - he will have no problems at all, just hook the monitor up via DVI-D.

BluRay was a temptation... HDMI (or lack of) isn't a deal breaker for me since I'd likely pipe the sound out of other kit anyway. DVI and HDMI vid quality the same (allegedly), minus the sound.

Of course, if I effectively have to upgrade the vid card to drive games at FullHD res as well, then the expense is much more than a few tens of quid between the 2209 and 2409

I've had a 2209WA for a while now and use an LG internal bluray drive with it. Looks very nice on blura playback thank you, better than me old BenQ 24 incher, best monitor I've owned to date:)

I'd go for the 2209wa personally after a lot of reading on here. I'm ordering one this week :)
You'll love it, mine is a week old and I appreciate it every day I use it, from build to image quality, it's a fine piece of kit. Will do me for years until some amazing new technology is affordable!

I did read a comment that the 2209WA wasn't great for watching/laying in dim rooms. Is there any truth to that? I'm guessing not...

If not, , looks like the 2209WA is the way to go.

I always game in a completely dark room, with brightness at 10% - looks fine to me, and that's on UT3 - a dark game at times...

I agree, I got mine today, absolutely fantastic image and build quality.

Though mine does have a really rather annoying dead/stuck pixel, not really sure what to do about it. :(

This site may help, otherwise test out Dell's warranty - if it bugs you that much. My old Viewsonic had a stuck pixel (green) which I just didn't see after a bit...
