I bought an 03 reg s40 1.9TD nearly a year ago and it's near service time. The thing is I'm unsure where to service it, and I'm looking for advice and suggestions.

Option 1:

Main volvo dealership. Good as I get the nice stamps in the book, but it's expensive and in the last year the servicing department have screwed up 3 times (nothing major, service computer was not reset when I bought the car, aerial was not repaired correctly and when I ordered a touch up pen it was slow arriving and was the wrong one (part number 123456 was ordered instead of 123465, say)). My confidence is low with them.

Option 2:

Local independant garage. Good honest garage (rare!). Not dealer though, so how much difference will that make to the car/resale value? All my local friends use them, but they all drive older cars.

Option 3:

Family friend who is a time-served volvo mechanic. Cheapest of the 3 and will do a 100% good job, but no little stamps in the book. How much difference will that make to resale value (Im planning on holding onto the car for a couple of years yet).

Which route would you choose? What about volvo-spec parts versus non-volvo brand parts? Worth the savings? Which should I request?

Thanks for the advice,
Fluffy

id say 2, cheaper plus will have service history stamps when you come to sell

if you sell when its 5/6 will still have quite a bit of value, so no stamps will be a lowering/bartering point, but at the same time, no point in paying over the top as its not brand new and u dont trust them anyway

I think thats the way forward, and as you say, I don't trust the volvo garage now - If they can screw up so many times, where else will they screw up? A slightly different component under the bonnet = £££'s from my wallet!

Cheers for the advice. Anybody else got any comments?
