I have managed to get a 1.8Ghz S478 Pentium 4 Mobile CPU and was wanting to use it in my downloader. Not sure if it works but want to know what board can i run it on?

Codes On the chip are as follows:

L310A517 SL6FH
RH80532 1800/512

I have also heard that there is a way to overclock these a lot... Not too bothered about that though...

Oh and what cooler can i use as the cpu doesnt have a heatspreader on it...

Thanks...

right

you can use these in a lot of desktop motherboards - such as msi's neo2 865 for example, allough most modern boards will a accept them

however they will default to 12x multiplyer in any desktop board - hence why raising the fsb is important, it will do 200 fsb (12x200=2400) on its stock volts which is 1.3 - making it run pretty fast and very cool

i believe coolers with a screw mounting are the most effective on cpus with no ihs - coolers like the tt big typhoon, however im not shure if this is compatible with 478 so check first

cheers... Really looking for a microATX board to use in my server... Cant have a big heatsink though as the case is pretty low profile... i will look at some of the 1U type that screw in...

I thought Pentium M were socket 479 not 478. I think thats why I never got one for my PC.

A Pentium 4 M is not the same as a Pentium M.

As you say, Pentium Ms are Socket 479, but a Pentium 4 M is Socket 478. I have a small PC with an Abit IS7 board running a P4-M 1.6 @ 2.4GHz with no problems.

This one is deffo a 478 P4 Mobile 1.8... Got any reccomendations on a MATX mobo that will work? I also heard that you have to snap one of the pins off to get it to work correctly.... :s

TBH i am not even sure if it works but if it does it will save me buying a new cpu... If it doesnt i can but a cheepo northwood or a celeron...

I have been thinking of a Asrock P4DUAL-915GL skt 478... Will that work?

Can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. I didn't have to snap off any pins either. Some motherboards needed that to force the FSB to 200MHz if I remember rightly.
