s5600 star filter help

i bought a few lenses ect for my s5600,i have hardly touched the camera since xmas but finally got round to having a play around with it and decided to get a star filter and some macro lenses.Does anyone know what settings i should have my camera on to use the star filter?

i had a go taking a pic of street lights outside :/

not sure what manual controls your camera has, but you need to increase the exposure, or find a more brightly illuminated subject. Try putting your camera on a tripod/wall and set a longer exposure time
 
You need a cokin A series adapter (The smaller one) and the star 8 or 16 filter slots down the back and you rotate it to reach the desired star effect.

The problem with your shot is that it just hasnt been exposed. Are you new to night time photography.

Chances are the exposure time is going to require around 1 / 10 seconds of exposure.
