Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the S7?

The old man has one of the biTDI A7s and is not happy with the whole diesel-gate episode (specifically that diesel emissions are now proven to be harmful to human health) so now wants a petrol. I believe Audi don't sell the A7 in petrol form anymore which leaves the S7 - but even if they did I don't think a 6 cylinder petrol in that size of car would deliver the torque he is used to with the 3.0 biTDI.

He's not a petrolhead but he loves the idea of finally owning a V8. He wants the 7 because he needs the boot space for storing bikes and sports equipment on the go. He claims the current 3.0 TDI gets sub 30mpg (official figures are 45mpg) - so he'd like to know roughly how much worse this would be with the V8?

The 6 cylinder in my car is a great balance of performance and economy, but I would not expect this from a V8 and I have no experience with this league of car. I also had no idea that from March cars costing 40k+ attract additional road tax (I just don't comprehend this at all, anyone know what the justification is? Seems like Corbynomics to me )

I know it's probably quite a rare car but just wondered if anyone has happened to have owned/driven one and would they be able to offer any comments?

Many Thanks

Audi still make a 3L TFSI engine in the A7 so they are around if you look (from £15k for a 2010 to £42k for a 2016).

I test drove the S6 (same engine as the S7) about a year ago and the MPG swap from a BiTDI to the petrol V8 is more than the figures suggest. You can get 33mph (measured) from the V8 on a motorway run as it has Cylinder on Demand dropping it to 4 Cylinders but in towns or if he drives quickly (as the sub 30mpg in a diesel suggests :D) you'll see 20mpg most of the time.

The 3l TFSI engine is much better on fuel but has over 100ft/lbs less torque than the TDi which would be noticeable. However, for under £1600 you can fit a different pulley to the supercharger and map it to produce 450+hp and 400+ ft/lbs which is S7 figures :D

Surely an S6 Avant is more practical and doesn't look like a squatting dog

Well looks are subjective and I think he just likes that 'squatting dog' look!
