Hi all,

i've just put together a home server using a mobile sempron 754, CPU cooling is via a previously unused stock AMD cooler from my old 939 CPU, using the standard thermal pad.

I'm getting 38c which isn't bad but i think i can do better, plus the noise is a little high for my liking, the 80mm fan running at about 3200rpm.

I've got some arctic silver 5 lying around which should help a bit, but i'm after a low noise cooler that will lower the CPU temp some more, hopefully to about 30c.

I don't want anything that requires me to take out the motherboard as it was a pita to fit in the first place, and it can't be overly tall as it's a matx case.

Many thanks.

I think you may be restricted to one of the Arctic Cooling coolers such as the Silencer 64 (92x92x77mm), LP 64 (106x76x54mm) or maybe one of the slimline Hiper SFF coolers. Maybe also the Akasa AK-862 which i think is 92x92x70mm but i can't be sure.

They are very wide and i also am fairly sure they use a clip onto the stock retention frame.

***Edit*** Yes they do. Installation guidlines and required clearances here.

Definitely a no go then, i think i'll go for one of the arctic cooling sinks you mentioned, the reviews look pretty impressive and ideal for what i'm after, rather fine price as well.

Thank you sir, you have been a fountain of knowledge :D
