Hey Yewen,

I got the lian li s80b after reading your review and seeing the pics you posted.

What fans should i use with this case?

I seem to be getting quite high temps lol not surprised with the climate at the moment.

was thinking these :-

YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan - 4 Pin (FG-004-YS)
If you want the best performing 120mm fan available, look no further than the amazing YS-TECH FD1238. Pushing no less than a monstrous 125CFM, this fan provides the ultimate custom case cooling solution. Fitted with a 4-pin Molex (PSU) passthrough connector.

- Speed - 2800RPM
- Output - 125CFM
- Decibels - 40.5dBA
- Dimensions - 120x120x38 NOT SURE ON SIZE OF ORIGINALS as i am at work :(

But would they fit?

Cheers

Are you sensitive to sound ?

That 40DB on the fan is gonna be 'noticeable'... I have a Silverstone which does a similar job of 111CFM at 38.5DB .. admittedly its mounted outside the case which doesn't help, but it was a loud sucker when internal.

trust me mate, with the s80b you wont hear much sound, but it does need more air shifting inside.

Its a dual skin case, ie 2 seperate panels per side lol. very quiet.

but you WILL hear the fans ...

it's only quiet if you make it quiet... its the components that count

He already has the case.

Is your PC stable? Ultimately as long as your temperatures are under 80deg and its stable, don't worry about it!

If you stick them into the S80, it will do nothing for the sound.

Delta 120mm Focused flow is as noisey in a S80, P180, P150, Sonata II as any other case.

The S80 is not a high airflow case, the WHOLE of my case bar the door is very warm to touch at the moment, yet my graphics card is at a nice temperature. This case was not designed for insane airflow, or stupidly low temperatures.

Fans I have in mine are stock ones, although I will be putting in some 7v Akasa Ambers.

Not what you wanted to hear but if its stable, let it be! Really never get why people complain about temperatures when they are half manufacturer spec and their PC is stable! Im planning on adding +10deg to my case temp to make the PC completely silent, as I am finding the S80 harder to silence than a v1000+, but then I have not been using it for years!

The S80 will never be able to compete with a high CFM case on brute temperatures, but it will deliver what I call acceptable temperatures at silent.

The thread in here is not a review aswell, just pictures and a few comments, the review is coming soon. As ive said to several people, this case is not for everyone and I would have trouble recommending it.

Don't know about you, but my inned side panels are reading a temperature of 34deg.

Thats 5 higher than the case temperature!

hey up,

cheers for the reply,

I have had no problems with system stability, infact i have noticed a nice drop in temps since removing the rear housing, as that seemed to be trapping a lot of hot air at the back of the case.

Think i will live with the stock fans then,

Cheers

You noticed that aswell?

It seems to stop the rear fans from getting the heat out of the case, and causes my PSU fan to be running flat out most of the time.

I will work out what the case needs to get it working, I am thinking about reversing the airflow in it.

The review of the case should be end of the week, hopefully I will have a better idea of things by then.

Stability is the most important thing, after that temperatures are irrelevant.

The stock fans make a racket though, 12v ambers push more air, and make less noise! Just worth considering. :)

Its a £180 case, I would have hoped Lian Li could have given us some decent fans, or none at all and priced it at £160. :(

Yep,

removing the shroud made a huge difference. The back end of the case was getting very hot with it on, seem'd the 80mm fan couldnt cope with the build up.

i am thinking of getting 3 of Akasa AK-183-L2B Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin (FG-024-AK) now you mentioned them.

But will hold out to see what your findings are :D lol

Well im planning on blowing £80 on fans for this case, Acoustifan Dustproof's.

They are very very good, but nowhere near as good value as the Ambers.

The 80mm fan when Lian Li release a + version of the S80 will become 92mm or angled 120mm, I will bet money on it!

Wouldnt be surprised if it is a 120mm fan.

I wont get a chance to play around properly with the case until the weekend after next lol. Gotta goto Cambridge this weekend with the better half to see the in-laws.

Plus i have to order up the rest of my connie system

Now he says this! I was gonna buy the Acousti's as they sounded better but everyone seems to rave about the Ambers.. oh well, pretty sure the Ambers will be good enough for my needs. ;)

Oh don't get me wrong the Akasa are great value for money, just the Acoustifan are twice as expensive!

Case + Cooling = £500 if I get them.
