What do people think of these cars? I have sold the vectra vxr and was thinking about getting one of these, its on a 57 plate :)

I like them and you get a lot of car for the money. They don't have all the toys you'd get in a similar aged BMW/Merc and they're an old design inside and out (bar the lights and a few other bits). I used to have an older but mostly the same 54 plate 9-3 petrol and I'm currently thinking about getting another.

I like them. Something different, original and the seats are fabulous on long journeys.

But personally, I wouldn't spend that amount of money on one. £4k or £5k, fine, but for 57 plate money, I'd buy the Audi/BMW equivalent even if older.

I like the look of these. Ok, so they're essentially a Vectra underneath but they are a much nicer place to be.

Look great with the body kit bits too (Aero?)

Ive owned one now for coming up two years (09 plate 9-3 aero ttid hirsched).

For what its worth I'm still loving every minute of it and its been completly reliable and solid (40k miles now).. although i guess saying now means I will break down lol.

Company car? If not the depreciation is really going to hurt, assuming you're not minted (and if you are then why'd you buy a SAAB).

I had one for two years / 60,000 miles.

Good parts: 2nd and 3rd gear acceleration. Touch screen sat nav and music, turbo gauge.

Bad parts: handling at speed, vauge gear box, noisy at speed, tyres hard to get hold of and expensive, lots of cheap dash board creaks, small rear and boot and lets be honest a low rent image.

Averaged 31mpg over 60k and broke down twice. Unless you are doing galactic miles do you really need a diesel?

What model and reg was it out of interest?

If the history is indeed full, & detailed with invoices etc to back up the service stamps, then there is no reason to worry re the miles.

I have recently bought a 260k+, 1 keeper from new, 5 series. Service history as thick as a phone book, you would never think for a moment it had done 100k if you covered the odometer.

I have owned the following high mile cars, 175k 318i, 125k 728i, 127k 328i 264k 528i.

Every one had a detailed history which matched the miles & condition of the cars.

My 2008 truck beats them all on 300k miles! :D

So, no miles worries in this corner.

it was a 58 reg Aero.

i too am put off high milers, i think that is a lot of money for the miles and you could buy something more for that.

I like them but I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much on one - it is going to depreciate hand over fist and it also has reasonably high miles for its age.

We have buses that have done over a million miles....

My family has owned 2 saabs over a total of 22 years and 330k miles. (10 years @ 150k and 12 years and counting at 180k) During that time there have been zero break downs and all the toys still worked. (still working fine on mine) Difference is that my car pre-dates diesel saabs and doesn't have any of the modern emissions carp to go wrong. For the most part, the 1.9 is supposed to be fairly reliable, but the usual diesel problems can and do occur. (DMF, EGR and swirl flaps afaik) Its a new model so the bugs will have been ironed out by this point.

Don't really do modern saabs so can't comment on the price, but they do depreciate rather well. (which is why they can be good second hand buys)

Do you recon in a years time it will loose a lot of money, it is just cheap and I know the trader very well. I only do about 8,000 miles a year but for 8k what can I get something nice looking and a diesel, i want a audi a4 but your talking over 10 for something half decent
