Behind you... Naked!
Sometimes its hard to love linux when it does this kind of thing.

But I have been using Sabayon since v3 and I love the hell out of it.

Its never let me down, and while I have also tested various distros over the years, I have always stayed 100% faithful to KDE... That was until KDE 4

Its dire and since then, I have gone with Gnome.

Now, WTF is this? Ubuntu went with it ( ok its easy to switch off thankfully ) Fedora has gone with it, and now my beloved Sabayon.

After all this time Sabayon has finally let me down and its all because of that pile of arse Gnome 3

How can I go back, or even how can I get icons on the desktop in gnome 3?

If I cannot cure this issue, then thats it I am afraid. Microsoft done a perfect job of Win 7 and Linux has just gone and become worse and worse every new distro.

Gnome 3 is indistinguishable from gnome 2, I suspect where your beef lies is gnome shell, look into getting the gnome panel based desktop in gnome 3.

Also; Ubuntu uses gnome 2 with their own unity desktop, the next release will use gnome 3 with the unity desktop, not gnome shell.

Unity - Of course yes, sorry about that.
I remembered as soon as I saw the word unity... You can simply log off and select classic gnome in ubuntu when you log in and it remembers it.

I have looked but Sabayon does not do that.

I have done a bit of a google, but I have not found any definite answers to getting Sabayon back to the desktop. I have found plenty of pages saying that it has no plans for unity, but... Here we are!

Any clues?

TBH, Sabayon totally fail to document their desktops. All I can tell is you probably have "Sabayon G", but not whether this is gnome panel/gnome shell/unity/something else...

Yes, its G

While I am a firm KDE lover, I have gone off KDE since v4 and I still try out various distros with KDE... Because you never know...

So, I have both K and G... Not liked much others except for Blackbox and its been a while so...
