sabertooth or rampage III ?

i would go for rampage, its matured allot and has lots of handy features to play around with, and nothing can beat its performance at overclocking!

Hi there,

Do you already have a s1366 CPU?

Also, may I ask what you will be using the PC for?

yeh sry for posting this in wrong place people

ill be getting a i7 950 cpu
ayell be using my pc for everything really a lot a media a lot a gaming n a lot of internet usage , few other things

In that case I would strongly suggest you wait until January 9th and pick up one of the new sandy bridge CPUs and motherboards.

Something like the i5 2500K and a P67 motherboard would be my choice.

am not a massive techy so am not that well informed on new parts , is this i5 as good as an i7 ?

In games, the new i5s (sandy bridge architecture) will be faster than the "old" i7s (nahalem architecture).

However, in most games performance will be bottlenecked by the graphics card, not the CPU (especially if its a quad core).

any idea how much these 2 things are going to cost ?

An i5 2500K will be ~£170 and the P67 boards will likely be starting at ~£100.

pretty cheap aint they , this is wht ive got in mind for my first build so far

Corsair Graphite 600T Midi Tower Case
Asus X58 Sabertooth TUF Intel X58
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz
OCZ Gold Low Voltage 6GB DDR3 2000MHz
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 SUPER OC 1024MB
Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB 10000RPM
Western Digital Caviar Black 2tb
Coolermaster V8 Cooler RR-UV8-XBU1-GP Fan
Pioneer BDR-205 12x BluRay RW / 16x DVD±RW Drive
XFX 850W Black Edition Modular Power Supply

what yeh think ? would they be worth waiting on ? are they releasing an i7 version

Aye, they look like they will be well priced.

The reason I suggest the Sandy Bridge (SB) i5 over the Nahalem i7 is because it is faster in games. The main benefit the i7 has over the i5 is hyperthreading, this feature is great in applications like encoding, but goes unused in modern games. Compared to that the new SB i5 is faster clock for clock compared to the i7 950 and clocked higher at stock. Hence it will be a faster gaming CPU, despite its lower price.

I'd strongly suggest you have a read or this well written SB preview article.

VAT will increase this coming 4th Jan so it would be wise to get
some of your parts now if you want to wait for the new processors.
