Hey up folk.

I am currently running a Sabertooth Z77 with an i3 chip after swapping out my i5 3570k into my sons PC and its been like this for one year now.

I am wanting to get my machine back up to a decent speed so I thought I would treat it to an i7 chip.
Looking at the price of chips I got to thinking of starting over and get myself the Sabertooth Z97 mk 1 and sling in an i5 4690k Devils Canyon ( love that just for the name alone ).

Wanted to ask folk in the know of such things,

Is it better to splash out on Z97 or stick with Z77 ?

Running Windows 8.1 these days after finally getting used to it.

Cheers.

Its £180 for a new i5 3570K, but 2nd hand they are like £100.

Do you want to spend a lot or a little?

Do you use the PC for gaming or editing etc?

Having been on Z77 and moving to Z87, (3770k to 4770k then 4790k) i would say no, best thing would be to drop an i7 3770k into your existing board. The performance improvement isnt all that much. Hold on until something with a bit higher performance comes along.

Not a gamer but I do do a lot of photo editing and the like.

As for second hand bits, prefer new. Got burnt real bad when buying a second hand P67 Sabertooth.

Thanks for this info.

I dont think swapping to Z97 and ending up with an i5 is worth it then.

Get a i7 3770K, but then I cant obviously recommend you buy a new one.

CPUs are less likely to fail than a board I feel.

You could sell your i3+Z77 board for,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£35 Saving** £371.98
Total : £381.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

And get a free upgrade within 3 years - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

Or an i5+Z97 bundle,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £264.58
Total : £274.18 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I may just do nothing till I can afford Z97 and a 5th gen i7 but by then the 6th gen will be out.

May have to rethink why I actually want the Sabertooth, dont need such a good board and a cheaper mid range one would suffice.

Cheers again
