Hello , hope some one can help on this.
I have a Sabertooth Z87 that i built myself about 4 years ago and up to last year it was fine, even now its fine but the problem I noted last year was that I could not access BIOS advance mode, but pc is working fine.
Lately i note that every time I start the pc it go to a black screen giving me the option to press F2 or DEL to configer Bios , once there it is unable to change or save anything but once there the only way to select "EXIT AND DISREGARD ANY CHANGES" and then the operating system kick in .
So I was thinking to update the bios to the latest one because the present BIOS is 1205 from 2013 I nether updated bios, pc has been working fine up to now,
But i do not want to leave too late just in case it get worst and can not access pc at all, so my questions are:

1 .can I fix this without updating BIOS
2. If updating BIOS will I loose existing Bios settings
3. Is it a way to save existing settings ? remember I can not access advanced mode
4. best safe way to update BIOS

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Have you tried changing the cmos battery? It will be a cr2032 and is in the bottom right hand corner of your board. You should be able to find them for a couple of quid for a pair of them.

To change between EZ mode and advanced requires a key press on the keyboard which is F7 if I remember right. If you should need to flash the bios IT WILL wipe your settings so you will need to right them down before flashing. Download the latest bios and put it on a usb stick formatted to fat32. Flashing should be done by USB Bios Flashback or from within the bios. If using USB Bios Flashback shut the pc down and plug the usb stick into the dedicated slot on the I/O section at the rear of your board. Your manual will tell you which one it is. If I remember right you press the USB Bios Flashback button for three seconds and it will start flashing to indicate that it's working but double check in your manual or online first. If doing flashing from within the bios, in the tools section you will find EZ flash. Fire that up and follow the instructions and point it to the usb drive. Carry on following the instructions and let it do it's job. Once done it will reboot itself. Do not under any circumstances interrupt the flashing process or you will end up with a bricked board.

Thank you for replying,
By pressing F7 button and then selec advance mode I get a black screen and have to restart or reset pc and because I can not access advanced mode , I can not write any existing settings,
I have not replaced the cmoss battery because I note that the clock on the bios first screen time is correct and i tried to change the time and it saves OK, it is only accessing advance mode the problem.

One more question before doing the BIOS flash back update , is there any need to disconnect any SSd or SATA driver or any others ?

No need to disconnect anything, just remember that it will wipe the bios so all your settings will be gone. I would still change the battery. Just because the clock is correct doesn't mean that the battery is ok. The battery can throw up all sorts of weird problems if it's on the way out.

No joy, just replaced the battery and the only thing I can change is the time, any other changes made on the first screen and select save changes and exit it report no changes have been made exit anyway?

if i try to go to advance mode, same ting , black screen !!!!

I had a similar problem recently on an old motherboard I have owned for years, and I found it was fixed by doing a CMOS/BIOS reset, by temporarily moving a specific jumper on the motherboard. (While the power is off, you move the jumper, then move it back to its normal position, then power the PC back on). Your motherboard hopefully has one of these jumpers..
N.B. this will reset all the BIOS settings to defaults, so unfortunately you will lose any changes you have made in Advanced settings etc.
