I’m looking to pick up a sacd player to mess around with using headphones. Is it better to get a dedicated player or just go cheap and find any old dvd / blu ray that has the option ?

If you're just dipping a toe in to test the waters then get a dedicated player but something used to keep the cost down. Best of both worlds.

Might be easier to just try finding some 24 downloads, they’re in the same ball park (IMO) and means that you don’t need to buy the player

Yeah I’ve got several on an external hard drive from my pc days. I no longer have a pc. My hd music is plugged into panny ub820.

I dipped my toe into SACD. It sounded so good, i've been swimming ever since.
I have a Marantz 7003 going to Audiolab and Dynaudio Excite speakers. I also use Sennheiser HD700 haedphones.
They sound wonderful, with depth and power beyond other media.
My real issue is the cost of CD's. Some can be £50+
