Finishing my choices for i7/920 P6X58D-E build.

I was going to order

Asus ATI Radeon HD 5870 £329.99
Lian Li PC-A71FB Full Tower Case - Black £189.99

Total = £519.98

But with OCZ Vertex 2E on this week only should i sacrifice GPU and Case to fit an SSD into build.

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £232.99
Coolermaster ATCS 840 Classic Case - Black £146.98
OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G) £144.98

Total = £524.95

Hoping 60Gb will be enough to run win7 ultimate (with 2 x 1TB Samsung F3's for Storage)

Missed ordering the PC-A71FB last week before the price increase ... doh

Is the OCZ Vertex 2E the best SSD at that price point?

My other quandry - do you think Noctua NH-D14 is overkill for 4.0 Ghz o/c I will be looking for. I know that most of the o/c bundles are using Akasa Venom or Megahlem.

I would say yes to the ocz. The akasa venom is just as good but a lot cheaper than the NH-D14. With the right fan the megahlem is better. All three will have no problems with a i7 @ 4ghz.

What res are u gaming at? Above 1080p i'd stick with the 5870 as F3s are pretty quick for W7 anyway but if ur at 1080p or below go with the 5850 and SSD combo. I got the Intel 80GB SSD and have W7 installed, all apps, etc and BFBC2 with 35GB spare so provided u are choosy with which games go on there u will be fine.

+1

I stuck with the 5870 and Lian Li in the end - they arrive from o/c tomorrow.

Once the new build is settled i might look at an SSD or even the Revo if it ever comes into stock. I am sure that the F3s will be quick enough - afterall i am moving up from AMD XP3200 / 6800GT (AGP) so i think the i7/920 and 5870 will blow my socks off - at least it better do :) Then when i slap an SSD in there i can get another noticable performance gain.

Thanks for all the advice anyway - it was still a very tough choice.
