I'm starting to plan for a European trip in spring next year, using my 750 Shiver. I've never ridden with any luggage and so I'm starting from scratch. I'm looking for recommendations to give me a decent capacity that won't dramatically alter the characteristics of the bike as well as avoiding vibrations etc.

Aprilia options appear to be very limited - a soft tail bag. I've seen some Givi gear for fixing and for storage, but I've no idea how good it is: http://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=1197

Any recommendations at all?

I'm also looking for something to provide a little more protection for me on longer rides. I'm 6' 1" and I reckon the standard screen deflects about 3 or 4 inches too low, buffeting the helmet a little too much. I wear a flip helmet (Caberg) and really like it, despite the noise, and really wouldn't be keen to change it.

Thanks all.

How long are you going for and are you camping? I've done week long trips with just a givi top box (the V46) when on my own stopping in b&b's. I've found this the most practical solution as the luggage is secure, no worrying about bungees and leaving he bike during the day. Also when you get to your stop you can just unclip the case and take it to your room.

A tank bag is extremely useful too - keep stuff like maps, visor cleaner, earplugs, sunglasses and toll money in it.

2up and or camping then you need a lot more capacity though.

Look at kriega stuff, I have a us20 and love it, you can add to it as you see fit. Should fit nice on your bike.

Thanks chaps. Just me, no passenger, and no camping either so no need for huge amounts of space.

Kriega looks really good - makes me wonder how much other stuff is out there that I simply don't know about!

Any ideas on a screen?
