Just thought I'd start a thread in here for anyone that doesn't look in the Apple section (a majority I imagine :P)

http://www.apple.com/safari/

Some really nice features and performance is very good so far. I'd be interested in seeing some screenshots from XP and Windows 7 users to see the difference between the two. Now that its supposedly integrated with the OS more.

Thanks, will install it now.
That's quite a big jump from 4.0.5 (which I believe was the latest version)

From what I've been reading on tech sites so far, it's actually still rubbish, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

Given that they're finally allowing extensions, might be time for me to move. The only reason I still use Firefox is for noscript.

Trying it now. Not sure what's amazing about it tbh. Though I will concede it is rather nippy - then again so are most of the others!

Plus I miss my OcUK Black theme! Blue is scary!

I am finding the 'Reader' function really interesting so far :)
Much better when using it on news websites to filter out the junk

Have to agree about the Reader feature. I quite like it - would be a good addition on any browser.

The top sites page is terrible! Unless I am being really thick, I have to open the Top Sites page in a different window, so I can drag and drop a URL to add a new site.

How the hell did that farce get by Apple? There is no "new Site" button where I can put in a URL and there is no option to add the current page or a book mark to it.

Only a minor thing but it's not very well thought out!

XP screenie for anyone bothered to know what it looks like. The native feel is a big improvement in my opinion - wonder if we'll get a native looking iTunes as well?

In terms of browsers we're spoilt for choice these days and it basically comes down to small differences in preference. Maybe the GPU accelerated browsers will shake it all up again.

edit -

Safari 5 also closes more than 40 critical security holes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4196 so if you were on the fence about upgrading for whatever reason probably best not hang about :p

I must admit though that Safari Reader is really nice but it would be good if it was more configurable - maybe allow you to change the font and size or render it on a different coloured background for people who have trouble reading black on white.

"Readability" has been doing this for some time and has display options. I wouldn't be surprised if the Safari feature was inspired by it
