Safari is rubbish because..

You can't get the download window to auto-close
You can't have the partially downloaded file get removed automatically if you stop and remove it from the download window
You can't have everything open in tabs, plenty of things still open in new windows which is very annoying
It seems to cache pretty much everything from a session, and so can use 500MB RAM
There isn't a way to block ads (that doesn't involve third party applications that brake every update)
It isn't supported as widely as Firefox which can get annoying when using certain sites

Saying that I do find it to generally be a good browser and bounce between it and Firefox :)

tab management is crap... i'm getting used to the stuff i'm missing from firefox since safari is so damn neat and quick, the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion...

but yeah, tabs... i really miss being able to:

• double click a tab to duplicate it (including all session history etc)
• double click the tab bar to create a new tab (that goes to the homepage)
• middle click a tab to delete (and middle click again to bring it back)

i just dont see how incredibly useful things haven't been built in

and yes it would be nicer if everything opened in tabs unless told otherwise... but i do see how it vaguely goes against the "mac" way of doing things (i.e. it takes away the F10 functionality and the like)

the last thing i miss is middle-click auto-scroll... i used to fly around web pages with that but now i'm getting used to the keyboard shortcuts for scrolling... but i'd still like the option...

I found the latest version to absolutely eat memory. even more so than firefox. I caught it using nearly 500MB the other day. Using Firefox now, but I do miss Inquisitor and the awesome new cmd-f

I actually love safari for all its little things (resizing of textareas in real time is great) but I agree, that p*sses me off too that you cant alpha sort them!

I've search thru every option in Safari to find that and its not there... odd!

It makes no sense to me not to put such a basic requirement in!

I use del.icio.us and the social bookmarks plugin for quicksilver so I've got nice keyboard access to all my bookmarks and they're all tagged and organised properly. They're also accessible from any browser on my machine without having to worry about importing/syncing bookmarks :)

there are alternatives to using quicksilver - they offer plugins for firefox, but quicksilver is quicker (oddly :p) and I use it for everything else anyway

Ah, but no use if you don't have access to the internet..

they get cached locally for a while, but I can't think of an eventuality where I want to access my bookmarks without an internet connection

You didn't fall for it, well in. ;)

I'll have to look into it - is it much better cosmetically than your usual bookmarks?

I was thinking "am I being a thickie here?!"

it's the convenience I go for more than anything - I'm very minimalist from an operating system point of view - I have my delicious icons in firefox for bookmarking pages, and no need for a bookmarks bar, which gives me [slightly] more browsing space. with the social bookmarks plugin, you sign in using the configuration wotsit and it preserves your tags for you. sometimes it takes a little while to index all of them (I have about 700 bookmarks I think), but once it does, all I have to do is cmd-space then start typing the title that I originally saved the bookmark as, hit enter then I'm there.

Might seem a little convoluted, but I have a hell of a lot of bookmarks that I access really frequently so I find it incredibly useful. and the fact that I'm used to using quicksilver whenever I want to do anything makes it a little easier
