New to Mac., go easy :-)

When browsing forums on my MBP can safari (web address bar, favourites) autohide like it does on the iPad?

Also, I would like to open links in a new tab with a simple click., no additional button presses.

First question, both can't be auto-hidden.

For bookmarks, make the following distinction: Favourites are the bookmarks that appear in the new tab page and under the address bar. Bookmarks are the ones that can be found in the Bookmarks menu.

The closest you can get to auto-hiding is hiding the Favourites bar completely (View > Show/Hide Favourites Bar), then when you open a new tab it'll show your favourites. You can use Command+1/2/3 etc. for your first/second/third bookmark in the root of your Favourites, though not bookmarks stored in folders in your Favourites.

As for opening links in a new tab, I'm presuming that you don't want to have to right click every time you want to open something in a new tab. All you need to do is hold down the Command key when you click on a link, and it'll open in a new tab. You can modify the behaviour in Safari's preferences.
