Hi,

I have an Acer laptop bought from new. I want to re-install Windows 7 but the key on the bottom has rubbed off. :/

Is there any way I can get the key back that doesn't involve the hassle of contacting Acer. I'm not sure they would care anyway as it's over a year old now.

I could Google for something but I imagine this sort of software could be considered dodgy, and some could be laced with viruses etc...

My next job is to figure out how to actually get a recovery disk made from the hidden partition.

Magic Jelly Bean will do it.

However, you may run into issues using the installed key as it'll be a special one (and different to the one on the sticker) that will not allow activation using a tradition install. Assuming that the machine still works use the inbuilt option (Acer eRecovery I think it is on their machines) to burn the recovery discs which will allow you to reset the system to factory settings.

Acer laptops (like most) have recovery partitions. Like Dano said their included (you can download it again if you removed it) recovery software will create recovery disks. Of course this might not be what you are after but it is the easiest method.

Thanks chaps.

I'll use the built in recovery option to reset to factory defaults, but I assumed I would still need the password.

If I don't then that makes life a lot easier for me. :)

I'll use the software recommended above just incase this goes horribly wrong.
