Safe limits for 8800gt OC

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what would be considered safe temps for a 8800gt OC?

Currently the card is at 670/975(1950)/1675 and is idol at 47 and 60 max under load. So should I push a little higher? What are the sort of max limits for 8800gt overclocks?

Also, using nTune, when you set the fan control manually, that does mean the fan still increases as the card goes under load right? I mean, if I set it to 45%, will the speed increase as the load increases still or will it just stick at 45% regardless of load?

8800GT are good to around 80c, I personally wouldn't take it higher than that at load, some people will say go to 90c but just to be safe ;).

I use RivaTuner with fan profiles to control the speed of my GT. setting it to 38% is as silent as the 29% set by ntune, but cools much better when idle. Im at 702/999/1728 on my BFG OC and it goes up to about 60 in TF2, 70 was the most in COD4, and mid 70's in Crysis. With stock speeds and ntune auto fan control it was quieter, but hit 80+ easy...

For reference, my fan profiles in RivaTuner are

<60 Degrees = 38%
>60 Degrees = 50%
>70 Degrees = 60%
>80 Degrees = 80%
>90 Degrees = 100%

using the monitor I can see mine hits a limit at 60 in TF2, and 70 in COD4. The increased fan speeds drop it back below the threashold, the fan slows, it heats back up, the fan kicks in, shunts it down, etc.

I also have a 120mm fan in the side of my case blowing on the GT which has shown a notable 5 degree drop in idle temps. Im talking to you now with it at 49.

Have a go.
