Safe mode problem - please help

I'm trying to get into safe mode (had some problems with Windows 7 today and it made my user unable to login, and the guide says to fix it I need to get into safe mode), however when I try get into it, after I click my icon to log in it will say preparing desktop then a couple of minutes later it will go onto this screen and just stay here. I can move my cursor but nothing else works, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work at all.

Does anyone have any idea whats wrong? It says safe mode in each corner

Have you tried Ctrl + Shift + Esc?

Try safe mode with command prompt and then type explorer.exe once it's loaded.

I tried that and it gets stuck on the same screen

Sigh I've tried it, the startup tool found nothing wrong and I don't have any restore points. Looks like its going to be a format

How long have you left it sitting like that? I'd leave it at least an hour to check it's not something that'll eventually timeout.

Not that long about 20 mins at the most, but now that you mention it I might leave it for an hour or so just incase.

try ctrl alt del to open task manager and then file and new task. type in explorer.exe and hit enter.

looks like the explorer process has failed to start.

None of those works but I ended up reformatting. Didn't lose anything other than my latest Firefox and Samurize configs but oh well. Thanks for the help
