Safe Mode

Often have trouble starting in Safe Mode using the F8 key - sometimes it works more often it doesn't. Is there any other way of starting in safe mode??
OS is XP Pro.

Start > Run > msconfig > BOOT.INI Tab > Check the /SAFEBOOT box.

Heard this can cause problems?? Is it possible to make a start up CD that will boot in safe mode?
