Safe Mode

For some reason when I try to boot into safe mode tapping F8 it brings up the select boot device menu instead, can someone help as to why it's doing this? Windows 7 btw, the screen it comes up with is just choose boot device either my HDD or optical drive, pressing esc boots normally. Thanks

try f8 and then select the boot device, then keep pressing F6 (works on my ASUS board)

It's because the BIOS uses F8 for the boot menu and Windows uses F8 so you can select safe mode.

You need to allow the BIOS post to go past the point where F8 will open the boot menu and then press F8 before Windows starts.

Thanks for the replies, I used msconfig, was probably a bit premature in posting the question, may be helpful to others in the future though
