Hi everyone :D

I am looking for safe overclock for an i7 920 that's currently at standard config. I don't know anything about how much to overclock by but I do know how to overclock in Bios.

was just wondering if anyone was able to give me some stable overclock figures?

Thanks

James :D

Safe overclock is as high as you can go, try to keep voltage under 1.4 and temperature below 75ish, whichever you hit first.

Best to start at 4ghz as thats pretty much guaranteed on a D0 version, bclk to 200 and multi to 20, voltage at 1.35(likely dont need this much, you can test lower once stable) and RAM at rated speed/timings and see how you go from there.

Temperatures are fine below 100, its very difficult to keep them under 85 on this chip when overclocking unless you disable HT.

I keep my temps under 90, preferably around 85 under prime tests.

My I7 920 D0 is one of the worst around in terms of voltage, it does:

3.8 Ghz @ 1.25v
4 Ghz @ 1.33v
4.2 Ghz @ 1.38v

Golden 920s will manage 4.2 Ghz at well under 1.3v (around 1.26-1.27v, but these are incredibly rare).

So I'd start at either 1.35v and 4 Ghz, or 1.4v and 4.2 Ghz, and then slowly reduce the voltage until it becomes unstable to find the minimum stable voltage. This should be doable on anything better than my measly Antec H2O 620 which keeps my chip under 90 degrees up to 1.4v.

Mine does 4.2 at 1.29, may well do lower but haven't min/max'ed it.

Guess I'm a lucky one then :P

I would go higher but I get to mid 75-80's on mine when the room is warm and thats a little high for what I like to see.

Temp seems high for such low voltage but meh, guess it's coming close to watercooling time next build!

My I7 920 will run at 3.7 at 1.2v. I didn't see any performance boost in games after this speed, didn't see much point in going higher

4.2 at 1.33125 here, (21x 200), it will do 20x 200 at 1.300 for 4ghz, 21x 193 at 1.275.00, tops out in the mid 70's under ibt. Havent got round to clocking the 930 in my other rig yet though.
