Safe to monkey with GTX660?

Hi all,

I've got a GTX660 here which, thanks to the measley power limit, won't go above 1GHz. I assume there's a way to raise this limit, but also is it safe to do so?

I have my unlocked BIOS ready. Is this still the procedure for flashing with nvflash in windows?:

1) Put the new bios file in the same directory as nvflash. (I like c:/nvflash, easy to get to)
2) Fire up the command line, get to the nvflash directory.
3) Type "nvflash -4 -5 -6 biosfilename.rom", no quotes.
4) Hit enter.
5) If it gives you nonsense about a protected bios, type nvflash /? and find the flag for unlocking the bios, use it, then go to #3.
6) Party!

At stock volts too! Mean of nvidia to try to rob me of those free frames!

Did you just up your power limit, the boost clock limits, or both?

I believe the BIOS unlocker I used (KGB) tinkered with the boost clock - at any rate that was about 1080Mhz after the unlock. And I put on another 120Mhz on EVGA Precision X.

1200 is pretty good going on stock volts.

You might be able to hit 1300 if your card can handle it / unlock to 1.212v, although the increase might not be that noticeable over 1200 unless you were benching.

You wouldn't worry about burning out something on the card overclocking that much? (in the power supply circuitry)

The board only has one PCI-Express connector too so I'm a bit worried about overloading that stuff.

Most seem to get around 1228-1300 on air. More on watercooling depending on the card.

My PNY will do 1200 at 1.162v, but if I unlock it, etc... it'll randomly boost to 1293 which it can't handle & crashes.
