Safe to repeatedly remove hardware?

I've just bought another PCI card for an Xbox 360 repair, and it's not working. This is the second card that I've tried, as the first didn't work.

So now I'm going to test if it's a faulty PCI slot (in which case I'll be pretty ****ed because this is a relitavely new build). I have to remove one of my graphics cards to do this, because the second card is blocking the only other PCI slot on my motherboard.

Now I'm fairly sure it is, but I just want to check, is it alright for me to remove my second card, insert this PCI card and then boot into Windows and then some time later (soon if the PCi card doesn't work, a while if it does) shut down, put my graphics card back in and boot into Windows. Will this cause any problems with my system?

Pretty sure I tried that when I was testing my first card. It didn't work, even though apparently it's supposed to with the chipset that my motherboard uses.

Putting in a VIA 6421 PCI SATA card and taking out one 5870. I only plan on removing it once, and maybe again in like 6 months. I just want to make sure that removing one 5870 wouldn't affect my system at all, because it uses crossfire.

I may be wrong but I would just turn off Crossfire in CCC and then disable the card in Hardware just to make sure... then do the switch...

However, don't rely just on that... I'v only ever done it once and it was on a cheapy comp...
