VID is 1.175v and I've pushed it up to 1.275v at 3.6ghz.

Wouldn't mind trying for 3.8, maybe 4.0ghz as temps currenty are pretty good so was just wondering what the upper limit vcore would be worth risking?

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550

VID Voltage Range 0.8500V-1.3625V

So from that I would not push higher then 1.3625v in the BIOS if I want my CPU to have a nice long life and for 24/7 use. 1.40v for a quick benchmark that's about it.

I have a Q9650 here with VID 1.2250v but with that same VID I can set my vcore manually to 1.2250v in the BIOS and get a stable 3.8GHz and to get to 4GHz stable for me it requires 1.25v vcore.

Careful with your FSB termination and the PLL voltages setting them too high is what fries these 45nm chips.

Also my CPU on all defaults in the motherboard runs at 100% load 3GHz (x9 multiplier) 1.128v vcore and at idle 2GHz (x6 multiplier) it runs at 1.064v vcore according to CPU-Z and ASUS probe.

Leaves me to believe that the CPU VID is set a little high on this CPU I have and should really be 1.130v for it to run at it's stock settings. Depends really how good a chip you get and what it will do at certain voltages. Just remember the Q9550's have a x8.5 multiplier.

Purgatory you seem to have excellent Q9650. How were the last batches before it got discontinued? I know and it has been said that last batches of Q6600 G0 generally had higher VIDs of 1.3250v and didn't overclock well. My Q6600 G0 has VID of 1.2625V and I can easily achieve a nice overclock of 1Ghz for [email protected] on high end aircooling. I can go to 3.6Ghz but I think I am limited by my mobo as Northbridge becomes too hot and the pc crashes:(.

I had an EO stepping q9550, 1.200 vid, hit 3.8ghz on 1.216 vcore, very cool running chip as well, my 1.2750 vid q6600 hit 3.8ghz but needed just over 1.5 vcore at that speed, board used was an asus p5q deluxe.

My old Q9550 was a good clocker too. C0 stepping with a 1.225 vid. Did 3.7Ghz on stock volts, 3.8Ghz with 1.25v, 4Ghz with 1.28v and max clock of 4.13Ghz with 1.325v.

Loads of good info and settings in here.

Pasty thanks for that buddy.

Your post has helped me nail 4ghz I reckon. Its been Prime'ing since 11pm last and has failed yet so hopefully its stable.

I'm using a P5Q Pro so I've just mirrored nearly all of your previous settings but needed a little more on the Vcore.
