I would like to allow my brother to access a single folder on my Xpenology NAS in the same sort of way that I can map each shared folder on my desktop machine over my LAN.

I'm assuming I need to open a port in my router and like to open it only for my brother's machine, so I assume I specify his IP. As you can tell i'm completely new to this networking malarky and I dont want to just go and blindly start opening ports and whatnot.

Thanks in advance.

I've used a VPN before for changing Netflix region but never for something like this. Would you happen to know of a good guide on how to set it up? I'll do some googling myself and see what i come up with.

im guessing they mean running your own vpn on either your own router or box any experience i have of router based ones have lacked throughput though, i have a debian based vpn running on a box at home and just followed a guide that ive long lost

if you do go down this route it is great for accessing stuff on your lan via the net which ironically is how im making this post
