Which order do you rate these games?

So far, I've only played SR1 on the 360 which was decent but was many, many moons ago. Now I'm slogging through SR2 on the PS3 and it really is a slog. I haven't played SR3 or SR4 so I'm wondering whether I should just move on to SR3.

I was going to ask if the four games are linked by a continuing story but I've completely forgotten what happened in SR1 anyway and can barely remember who's who in SR2.

Confused yet? :p

Both SR3 and 4 are amusing read some reviews or watch the video reviews to see if you like the style. I thought SR3 was OK.

Yes they all have a continuing story.

2 and 3 are great fun when playing in co op. Saints row 4 was okish, it added super powers and went even more OTT than the previous games.

SR2 has become a lot more fun since I put the cheats on for infinite ammo and health. Hardly matters that you don't get achievements as there are none on the PS3 version. :D So, nearly done. 35/45 neighbourhoods owned.

Well, I think SR1 + 2 look ghastly now after the beauty of GTA V so it does distract from the experience a little bit. I read SR3 got a good graphical boost.

Was never much of a fan of the series really. The first one was novel I think because it was a 'next-gen' (at the time) GTA before the actual GTA had arrived. SR2 was just more of the same and by that point GTA4 had been out 6 months so it looked rather poor in comparison. Visually it was nothing special at all, and the cars handled terribly.

SR3 just seemed to go crazy, presumably because Volition realised that trying to be a GTA clone was never going to pay off. I didn't get far into it, most of the missions just seemed to be "go here and do this minigame or activity for a bit", then get attacked by endless waves of insanely powerful enemies. Dull.

SR1 > SR4 > SR3 > SR2

I am enjoying 4 a lot more than I thought I would. I was worried the new super abilities would ruin the game, but then I played it and it reminded me of how Crackdown played, which I loved.

I would almost put 4 first on the list. It's very close.

Having played them all i'd say;

SR2 > SR1 > SR3 > SR4

I liked three but that's when it started going super over the top and four was an absolute joke and although fun was just to much for me.

Where as i loved the first two but personally loved 2 more than the others.

SR3 is like culture shock after playing the first two it seems. Huge leap in graphical quality and a slight reconfiguration of the controls. I suppose it being in a new city throws you a bit as you are not familiar with the locations.

3 was my favourite, then 2 I think, although I played 2 on PC and ran into a lot of issues which kind of ruined it a bit for me :\. 4 is fun but did nothing for me over 3. Only played the demo for 1 but have that arriving in the post soon to play. :)
