What files did Origin actually download? Presumably it's just an ISO or something that you then have to install through Steam with?

It's a Steamworks game, so you have to play it through the Steam client regardless. Not sure why you'd download it through Origin rather than Steam unless they don't give you your key without doing so.

Origin downloaded 10gb of files then sent me to steam,
It did give me the key but after I started the download, I didn't want to put the key in steam just incase it thought I was trying to pirate the game, (with the origin download already started)

What actual files did it download? Is it the game itself extracted? An .iso? Or an .exe installer?

Not sure on the logic around pirating the game. Why would Steam possibly think that?

Well if the cd key has been used in origin to start the download,
I didn't know weather the cd key would have been registered as used,

And origin has downloaded the full game but steam won't let me play it cause it's wanting me to patch it,

The game is Steamworks, so every key needs to be activated on Steam at somepoint.

There was a 2gb day 1 patch I believe, but if it's downloading all 9gb of files, it would suggest that the files you copied into the Steam folder aren't being found by the client. Could they be in the wrong place?

They should be in:

"\Steam\steamapps\common\saints row the third"

With game_launcher.exe in that folder

just checked and they are in the right place,
ill just leave it downloading, just seemed to have wasted 3 hours of downloading through origin lol,
ill learn for next time though

try deleting clientregistry.blob from your steam directory before you start steam, i think thats the file that caches all the crap.

its the file you always delete first if steam is messing up

I'm just going to let it Finnish downloading for the night, fed up of waiting going to bed

Damn thats daft, even worse than when you buy a steamworks game on disc and it proceeds to download the whole game again. We should not have to mess about moving files, the install process should be designed properly in these cases.

its working now, so god knows why i had to download 10gb from origin but nevermind,

oh btw this game is awesome, been playing it since 6 this morning
