Thinking about playing this game, but is it worth playing 1 & 2 first, or can I just crack straight in with 3, is there a story line that continues on into 3 ?

I played Saints Row 2 a bit a while back with no care for the story... Got Saints Row 3 and once again didn't care for the story. Certainly a god damn epic game whatever though. GET IT!

I played it without playing the first two, and I didn't feel I had missed out. It's just good ridiculous fun.

I'm in the same boat, I haven't played 1 or 2, but I saw my bro playing the third and it looks like utter madness!

Although, people have been saying the second is the best, as you play straight man to an increasingly wackier world.

I've recently done 1 and I'm on 2 (but have completed It before). I would complete 1 and 2 first to learn a bit about the characters and see the change from "naff but fun GTA knock off" to "crazy ass fun". And to be honest they are fun, and funny, games still. 1 slowly turns into a bit of a drag but it is short. 2 is much better in terms of gameplay and structure and a bit longer.

1 is xbox 360 only I believe. 2 is PC and PS360 but tbh don't get it on PC it is an unstable buggy wreck even with the Gentlemen of the Row superpatch.

I would say 2 is the best as you have a the crazy game but it is at least grounded in reality still, which makes the crazier bits more... Betterer.

I played 3 without anything else and I thought it was hilarious. Like GTA on Acid.
On the strength of that i bought SR4 and found it completely boring though.. so!

Third one was the best IMO, had a good quality feel to it whilst still being insane. Fourth certaly lost it but the first two were very basic and wouldn't be that much fun if played these days, I did like the second SR though.

SR1 I'd only play for nostalgia reasons.
