Last thursday I had ordered various items from OCUK. One of these was the Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless joystick. When the stuff came on the Friday, I immediatly began to test out all the things I had got, then I went out for a while and then I came back and decided to put in and test the joystick.
I first started to install the drivers from the installation CD. This asked me to put in the joystick, which I did, as I did so the Windows task bar icon for new hardware found. Several messages came up down there, and these are what they were in order:
"A new usb device found"
"Unknown Device"
"USB Device not recognised - One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it"
"Windows has finished installing your new devices"
The drivers would not allow me to proceed, as I'm guessing it can't see the device is the joystick.
At first I had thought the joystick was dodgy, and so I immediatly took it downstairs to try on the other computer. To my surprise it picked it up very quickly. No drivers or anything installed, it appeared in the Game Controllers section in control panel as "Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless Joystick" and I could configure it, test the buttens and other such things from here.
After this test I have brought it back up to this computer to try and get windows to recognise it, but with no sucess.
I have tried searching online for the past couple of days for the solution, but all my searches have come up with nothing or said to do something, which I have tried, that doesn't work.
I have tried another hard drive in my computer, installing windows on the new drive, then trying to see if it works but there was still the same problem.
To rule out the possibility that it was actually my Windows, I took out the hard drive, connected it up to my old computer, formatted and installed windows on it, and simply plugged in the joystick. No problems, just as the downstairs computer did it.
So the fault obviously lies within my computer somewhere. I would be guessing it would be USB ports or something, and so I went into the BIOS and messed about with the USB settings. I turned off the USB 2 Controller, turned off USB legacy, and there was one other option. When the other option was off all usb devices stopped worked, so that was a bad choice. I tried a combination of the two other options:
USB 2 off, legacy on
legacy off, USB2 on
legacy off, USB2 off
On this note, when I got into windows after tinkering around with them, I put them back to default - them all being on. I put the USB wireless reciever into the usb port once more, accedently slipped and I managed to disloge it enough for it to come out whilst Windows XP "A new device has been found" message appeared. I quickly put it back in and it detected it. Device manager reported it as "Saitek Cyborg Evo Wireless" only this had the yellow exclamation mark icon on it. I thought this was because the drivers were not installed, and so I managed to get the drivers to install, they wanted a reset. After the reset it was back as an unknown device. I employed the same trick as previous to get it to say it was a cyborg evo wireless, but still the yellow exclamation icon.
At this point I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of buying a cheap PCI card with usb ports, just to see if it is the motherboard usb ports that are not very good.
If someone could advise me on this I would be greatfull.
My main system specification is as follows:
Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3700
Ram: 2gb Geil value CAS 3
Graphics card: Geforce 7800 GTX 256mb
The other two computers I don't know much about, They are both quite old and are both DELL. One is about 3 and a half years old and is a Pentium 4 1.8ghz, 768mb ram, geforce 3 ti. The other one is a very old one, pentium 3 797mhz, 256mb ram.
