I can get this for £85 from the high street catalogue chain beginning with A

Just wondering, for anyone who owns this mouse, would you be happy paying £85?

Nevermind what you paid originally, do you think its worth £85 of anyones money.

I'm seeking justification to buy it, I have a Logitech G7 which is working fine after many years of use.

I can't think of a reason why I need the rat 9 at the moment. I like its looks, I like that it has a weight system and I like the idea of trying different grip styles through adjusting it. I think knowing me though I would just adjust it once and then once I'm happy with it I'd never adjust it again.

But no explicit reasons I can think of for needing the rat.

Another option I like the look of is the Logitech Performance MX which is half price at the same shop atm but out of stock atm.

TLDR; do you own a rat 9? tell me how great it is, and justify to me the expense.

Cheers :D

I guess one reason to buy it is £85 is a good price, its nearer £100 everywhere else and £99 on OCUK.

I'd be happy if the price was nearer £50. I don't like the look of the G700...tried a mates Sidewinder x8 its uncomfortable. Definetely want wireless.

Performance MX looks good but is it any good for gaming.

Rat 7 here and I find it more responsive than the 9, wireless lag I guess.
Plus the 9 is proper bulky.

Also, take the price off the OP, OCUK dont like that.

I can go and collect the mouse tommorrow for the price I said in the OP from the shop I mentioned

Not sure what to do now, on one hand I would really like the mouse but its quite a lot of money just for a mouse? I definetely want a wireless gaming mouse, can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative. Don't like the look of the g700, sidewinder x8 I find uncomfortable like I said.

Hmm, will probably pass I have a holiday flight to pay for and need to buy some clothes gear.

I said £89 for mine, not using it anymore as I gave it to my brother as I wanted the functionality of the Naga. It's a really good mouse, definitely worth the premium price. :)

Do you need wireless?

The RAT 7 is identical in all but being wireless. I use a 7 with the cable suspended and I do not even know it is there (The cable)

^ Yes must be wireless, as I'm a bit OCD with keeping my desk tidy and laying it out perfectly.

I'd get antsy if there was a wire that was moving around all the time :D

I've seen the performance mx cheap in a few places, thats probably the one I'll go for. I have a logitech keyboard so it would probably look good next to it...again the OCD thing.

RAT 9, buy it if you dare. Just be aware that in my experience the battery wont last, and they didn't sell replacements last time i checked, so once your batteries are gone you have a wireless paperweight that you can modify to fit your hand.

You can get replacement parts including batteries from the Madcatz gameshark store but they are a hefty £17.99 . I don't think I can directly link as they also sell products OCuk sell.

Well I got it :)

Not done any adjustments yet, the default shape seems pretty ideal to me. Might add the pinky rest but other than that I don't think I want to adjust it.

Just getting used to the back/forward button placement, I'm curling my thumb to use them...I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I'm not using a mouse pad just my wooden desk, the glide is a bit slidey as I had anticipated with it being a metal base. Its just a bit different to what I'm used to.

I just want to say this, this is a extremely comfortable mouse. It might look horribly uncomfortable but trust me on this it isn't. Its not a shape you have to get used to holding its just comfortable to begin with.

Yeah my only slight niggle atm is the back/forward placement, its difficult to press them with the ball of your thumb, you kind of have to use the body of the thumb to press them. There is scope for them to be mounted further forward aswell so its a tad annoying.

The battery system is the same as my old G7, you always should have a charged battery in the mouse. None of this using a wire to charge business.

Chuffed.

Just gone a bit mad and adjusted absolutely everything, got the thumb rest as far out as it will go and swapped the palm rest for the textured one. And extended the palm rest out a bit.

Tried the pinkie rest but it wasn't for me.

It does feel quite different now, also adjusting the mouse is a bit tricky, a spring flew across the room and I took a screw out and had difficulty putting it back and thought I had broken it.

Ah I haven't been able to install the drivers, I think this means the precision aim button doesn't work.

Ah its working now, found the right driver.

Ok just a bit of a update, I am now at one with the mouse, although I do find it heavy so I'm not using any weights and its still heavy.

Adjusted it again, now the thumb rest is at the default setting I think which feels good and the palm rest is the default rest and is back 1 step.

I do not have sufficient space for a mousepad...tracking is fine on my desk but I'm missing the glide of a decent pad.

I have found that the shape of the mouse is comfortable when you start using it but is not great after long periods. The dips and gaps in the mouse start to feel slightly annoying, wouldn't reccomend this mouse for anyone who's primary use isn't gaming.

The extended pinky rest is perplexing, maybe its my hand but I do not understand how its supposed to be comfortable its absolutely mismatched with my hand I think.

The thumb scroll for me is not something I would be able to use regularly as the placement is a tad awkward. For me I have it set as a volume control which does not need regular tweaking. I'd forget about it as something you could bind to a keypress in a game for example.

Personally, the only main downfall of this mouse is the unconventional ergonomics that get tiring after long periods. If I was gaming all day long they wouldn't be a problem but not for web browsing thanks. This mouse would be suited to a hardcore gamer perfectly.
