I'm just about to reach the end of my 3 month probationary period as an IT support consultant. Would you say it's normal or rather cheeky to expect a pay rise at this point?

If you have excelled then you may get a rise. Normally it's just confirmation that you have done a good job and are now permenant.

if you dont ask.. you wont get, no harm in trying.

dont forget that a probation period works both ways, YOUR also testing to see if the company is worthwhile working for, and if your feel like your underpaid, then do it!

Does the company generally give out pay rises at a specific time of year (e.g. the start of April)? If so, it may be best to wait until then.

Try to sound out a few of your colleagues to see what sort of pay rises they got and how long after joining.

I would expect a pay rise but that is because I would have arranged that with the employer. I always say a 3 month pay review when starting a job - there's a salary I expect out of the employer and I think it's understandable to work for a little less if it guarantees your employment at interview/review stage

Just checked my original correspondence with them and I have an email stating they'll review my salary after 6 months. This isn't in my offer of employment but I guess I'll wait until then anyway.
