Hi all,

I'm building myself a new rig but keeping my case PSU and I would like to move the CPU/MB/GFX card of my current PC (spec in sig) into the PC my wife uses.

The PSU in her case is a 480w Antex true power 2.0 and I would like to salvage this because it cost 90quid not so long ago.

I think 480w should be more then enough for the system however there is a slight problem! The Antec has a 20pin connector + 4pin which you can click together to create a 24pin connecter, which is fine, however it does not have another 4pin connector the MB requires!

As I understand it, the second 4pin connector is to supply a 12v power source for the CPU and possibly other bits around the MB.

Has anyone else used a slightly older PSU on a newer MB that requires the 4pin connector?

I had the PSU maybe 3 years, but it was only used heavily for the 1st year of its life.

So the 4 Pin plug from the 20+4 cable is 12V and up to the job?

Somewhat surprised it doesn't have the 4pin connector, I mean haven't they been around for most of the decade (since the P4)?

Both my old P4's (northwood A and C) motherboard's used the 20 pin connector. I am pretty sure the 24 pin connector was introduced around the same time as PCI Express. Thats got to be 4 years now?

Hmm it could be 4 years old, how time flies!

Its still a 480w PSU and has the required 6pin PCI-E power molexs so it should easily power the system in my sig

I have found a connector which turns a regular 4pin molex into the 4pin MB connector. I will post here again in a few days when the connector arrives and I can try it

The extra 4 pins on the atx connector are not the same as the the cpu power connector (0, 3.3, 5 and 12V opposed to 0, 0, 12, 12V, also 12V cables are usually yellow). I would be surprised if their is a psu with a pci express connector doesn't have a cpu power connector, as the pcie connector is more recent. Are you sure their is not an 8pin cpu connector that separates into two 4 pin ones? I have a 3 year old supply which has this.
