Same connection - 1 slow laptop, 1 quick

Hey guys,

Currently using 2 laptop off one connection via wifi. The fast one is an old Toshiba Tecra which is perfect for browsing and webpages load instantly. The slow one is an Acer Aspire One.

We've been travelling around with the Acer and just assumed that all of the internet we had access to had been slow, but now we have the old Toshiba we can tell that it's a problem with the Acer. I think I may have made it worse recently by doing a bit of housekeeping and possibly disabling some services I needed?

Any suggestions? What can I check? Downloads seem to a decent speed, but browsing is just painful on it.
 
What wireless adapter is in each one? You will probably find 1 is more powerful than the other, i.e. it's wireless connection speed could range anywhere from 26Mbps-308Mbps!? Also, are you connecting on say N-Wireless frequencies on one and G frequencies on the other? Are both laptops at the same distance/walls etc from the router?

Do you have spy/malware as suggested above already on one that is using a big chunk of the bandwidth sending unknown data across? (sit there with the task manager open on the network page when you know nothing is d/l'ing and see if it is being utilized maybe?)..

Sorry guys, should have given more information.

Both laptops running XP with all latest updates etc. The Acer was a laptop I used at home before and was as fast as everything else that I had at the time. It is now like using dial up which just strikes me that something isn't right. I've tried 4 browsers and all are the same. The difference is HUGE not just negligible making the Acer pretty much unusable.

Already tested for spyware and malware and there are no problems. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with connectivity settings or services and I was hoping someone else had experienced the same problem!
 
What type of wireless encryption are you using - WEP, WPA, etc?

What wireless adapters are in each laptop - G or N?
