Hi,

Seem to desperately need two new rear tyres. And probably alignment of some sort...but I don't mind waiting a couple of hundred miles on new tyres for the latter...

Does anyone know if I ring up first thing in the morning, some kind of mobile tyre fitter (that isn't awful) that would be likely to be able to fit me in. I'm in York, if that makes any difference.

This is, of course, if I don't get somewhere on the way to work to fit me in during the morning.

ANY establishment should be able to fit while you wait, assuming they are not full of other while you wait customers. Ring ahead and specify a time and you should have no issues.

I imagine the biggest thing you need to overcome is if they have your tyre in stock or can get it easily.

I have never left my car unattended in any tyre fitting company except when it was left at Honda for warranty work and they did it in-house.

fairly regular 205/55/r16 i think... juts gotta be at work all day then sodding off to manchester in the evening.

I'm not talking about stock availability, I'm talking about fitting. I thoguht the OP was too.

Unless he's expecting to just drop his car off without checking for stock, and then pick it up in a few days.

Does it normally take more than a day to fit tyres which are in stock?

It never takes more than a day to fit tyres that are in stock. I presume he is talking about stock. Fitting tyres takes 10 minutes.

Thought so. Which is why this seemed odd.

I cant understand why you'd consider it odd. It was fairly obvious what I meant - fitting a car tyre does not take long, therefore it was plain as day I meant 'Walk into tyre shop, order tyre, have to come back a few days later' rather than 'Let me leave my car with you for 2 days for you to fit a tyre to it'

I've experienced same day fitting, it's just a shame it was also pretty much all-day fitting! Worst thing ever to do is pop down to a garage on a friday and ask for all 4 tyres to be changed, nice easy job for the guy to stretch out for a good few hours (took 5hrs from driving in off the road to getting the car back!). I'd say your best chance would be the Kwik-Fit type places if there is one on your way to work.
