Same fans but running different RPMs?

Hi all,

I have 3x Akasa Piranha front intake fans connected to the ASUS Maximus VIII Gene motherboard (CHA_FAN4) using a PWM 3 way splitter and 2x Akasa Piranha CPU fans connected using a 2 way splitter to CPU_FAN header, both are running the same fan profile in the BIOS however CHA_FAN4 fans are running 70-90RPM lower than the fans connected to the CPU_FAN header, is this normal?

Also, is it safe to connect 3 fans to the motherboard using a 3 way splitter or would that overload the fan header?

Thanks

While I can't tell you why there is the discrepancy in fan speed I can tell you that whether or not it is safe to split 3 way depends on how many amps those fans draw and how fast you run them. If you had 3 4000RPM delta fans running full speed that might be a bit much. A lot less might be a bit much, I don't know. I'd never go past a two way split (matter of fact I never split) personally but that's JM2C. Safety first and what not.

There is a +/- somewhere on your fan speed specs.

Also maybe voltage difference, maybe different resistance to airflow between where each is slowing the blades.
