Hi
Was playing wow last night and the game went all choppy then black screen then the dreaded " your display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" or similar up until last night i have had zero problems with the 580 and here is the strange thing i have added no new software or hardware it just started out the blue., tried all the usual stuff, is there any new info on this annoying problem
Many thanks

Try uninstalling the drivers and putting them back in, if that doesn't help, try another few sets of previous drivers. If the problem remains, then you'll need to check the stability of your overclock. Check CPU, RAM and GPU overclocks.

ok all setting back to stock tried all i can think of maybe its time to upgrade to windows 7 had lots of probs with vista, seems a lot of ppl are suffering with this prob and vista
Thanks anyway

Ive had the black screens with Wow,its seems there is a slight issue with 580s with Cataclsym at the moment so ive read on the net.

Try different drivers, apparently the best drivers for Wow with the 580 are:

262.99

All the problems ive had with black screens in wow were with the drivers "263.09",im now trying 263.11 drivers, which havent been made public yet by Nvdia, they can easily be found though, ive had zero black screens since getting shot of the 262.99 drivers,im not saying that its Nvdias drivers that are the problem mind just seems better for me.

Does the 580 black screen in any other games, have you tried to run wow at stock settings with the 580?,ive found this stops the black screen near enough?

I know you say that but what about changes or tweaks in the BIOS, have you made any recently? We've also in the last two weeks gone through a patch tuesday from Microsoft, has that put something on that has broken something?

Quick look on the ASUS site and version 0405 (09/11/2010) is the latest version;

P6X58D-E 0405 BIOS
1. Improve memory compatibility
2. Improve system stability
etc...

You seem to have made your way through every driver you can get your hands on so unless other 580 users are having issues, it could perhaps be a compatibility with some other piece of kit?

Issues like this are a mare to sort out but you do have a very new piece of kit in that 580...

good luck,
J.

I would suggest trying it in another system, see if it does the same on that. If it does, then it's probably the card at fault.

Is it just WoW that causes the problem or do other games cause it too?

hi
like i say all bios settings are at default (stock)
since the clean install of vista havent got to dx11 update
will try the bios update this morning

ok been on to support at OcUK ank they said its wow and there is a patch incoming to address the problem

Test something like Crysis with it for an extended period to thoroughly test the card's GPU and memory (so crank it up as high as it goes) just to make sure it's a driver problem, not the card.

Does seem that drivers are more probable, especially if it's fine in Heaven.

I had exactly the same problem in WoW with my 580 using the latest Nvidia drivers under Windows 7 64bit.

I am running wow in dx11 mode all the time now & not had any black screens since, the worst area for me was Deepholm when the problem started.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Funny you should say that...mine also started in deepholm and doesnt seem to happen anywhere else but seeing as how I am questing there its annoying.
Yes everything else runs fine just seems to be wow

Im running in DX 11 since this morning, the game looks a lot better.

I cant comment if this fixes the black screen as i havent used DX11 long enough yet.
