Hello, im my system i currently have 2gig Geil ULL 6400. Today i inserted an other 2gig of Geil ULL 6400 ram. I currently get 3.5gigs of ram showing up in windows. I know about windows 32bit not able to support 4gig of ram. With closer inspection to the ram using CPUZ it shows that the first set of ram (old ones) Is Actually 6400. The second set i have just put into day shows them being 5300. I was shocked to see this. I then went to the box that they came from and it says that it is 6400 ram. I then looked onto the actual ram its self and it also says that it is 6400ram, but it is currently being picked up as 5300. How can i change this so it knows that it is 6400 and not 5300?

Many Thanks,
Paul.E

If its set to 5300 thru the SPD settings there is nothing you can do I'm afraid other than return the ram as that isn't what you have paid for. Have you checked the new ram on its own? Does it still say 5300?

Afaik its impossible to have 4 gb with one set running slower/faster than the other.

I have exactly the same problem with the same Geil ULL ram i bought from OCUK in december, only built my rig this wk so only just found out, will phone them tomorrow when they reopen and try to arrange RMA.

I had exactly the same problem as you but in reverse. I bought my first 2 x 1GB Geil ULL ram (for around £150!!!) around 18 months ago and this showed up in cpu-z as PC2 5300 ram and a couple of months ago i bought another 2 x 1GB Geil ULL (for £35) and this showed up as pc2 6400 which confused me. After looking into it i found that all is o.k. both sets of ram are the same and they do run at 800Mhz. I think it is a case of these ram sticks being identified wrongly by cpu-z but fear not as all is well, in fact i can overclock my sets quite well. Just make sure you have your speeds set right in your bios and voltage set to 2.1v

The SPD on some GeIL ram is programmed wrong. It still runs at the rated speeds. There were threads about this many moons ago when it was being built into everything.
