Can anybody explain to me why this is happening? A freind of mine with an iphone connects to wifi when he visits.

Doing a Google search to see what our external IP addresses are my mobile and my PC I get the same IPv4 IP address. My friend with the iphone gets an IPv6 adress. Why is that? As he is connected to my wifi should he not be getting the same external IP address as my PC and my mobile?

The external IPv4 address will be the same, IPv6 addresses are unique to each device as there's no concept of a public and private address, or NAT (for the most part). If your phone and PC had IPv6 enabled then they would get IPv6 addresses as well. I assume you're on Sky or BT?
