To my dissapointment, samknows is unable to map my full postcode and display my approx. distance from the exchange! :(

However, I tried with the post code of the adjacent road since the building is on a T junction (this postcode is used by the electricity supplier by the way).

The result was 1.02Km from the echange and the blue dot appeared on the map.

This is great if it is true, since I should be able to get full speed? However, after the BT engineer installed my line today, I used the BT broadband checker with the number and it says I "might be able to get 256k service" to my surprise!

Does it take a while for the database to notice the change? Was the BT engineer supposed to run tests and update it?

Any ideas, I am frustrated :(

PS: BeThere availability checker and samknows says my line is eligibile for LLU services.

It's quite possible for BT's database to be out of date...and also quite possible for your line to be far longer than the straight line distance to the exchange. That is one of the annoying gambles with ADSL sadly :/

I really wonder what the outcome of this will be. I guess I ll find out when they activate the line and I sync a modem.

But 256k as BT suggest implies I am 5.5Km from the exhange, which is irrational since even if we double the straight line distance to accomodate wire routing I should still be able to get the standard 1meg and not "might get 256k" :z

Ring the BT tags line and get them to look at your line's entry in the database - it's often wrong, especially if your line was previously ceased/LLU'd.

Don't think anything of it, moved into my first flat 4 months ago, got a new line 2 minute walk from the exchange, line installed go to the checker 256k...

My UKonline connection went active maxed at 512k, phoned em and within 5 mins, was maxed at 8mb........then I got greedy a month later now maxed at 16mb :p

Did you phone BT or the LLU Provider?

PS: I got an email saying the line is eligible for LLU and now is up to BT to make the switch. I guess they tested it? Fingers crossed!
