Hi i got a nice new replacement of a samsung 2053bw to 2253bw.

Now its a 16:10 monitor thats 1680x1050 resolution but when i use ps3 i can do 1920x1080(p) resolution and it looks really clear and sharp. Its @ 60hz.

Does running higher resolution have any negative effect on the monitor?

I'm using them Dvi/hdmi switcher to choose ps3 or pc.

cheers

With that monitor you only have 1680x1050 physical pixels. When you run a higher resolution into it - the monitor does sub-pixel "tricks" to display the higher res, but in terms of clarity it is a fair bit worse than the native resolution. It will not harm the monitor running it at "1080p", but if the PS3 give you the option to output in 1680x1050, then I suggest switching to that.

With a PS3 - the games are usually rendered in sub-1080p resolution and then scaled up to 1080p by the PS3. Therefore the lack of sharpness produced by the non-optimal resolution may not be noticeable due to the image being input - which itself is not particularly sharp. I say - if you are happy with the way it looks, then keep it as it is, but certainly don't run any PC games at 1920x1080, stick with the native resolution - it will look better and put less stress on your GPU.

Thanks for reply, yes i understand that and i like running my pc/pc games @ 1680x1050 because i prefer 16:10, this is the reason i chose the this resolution. Web browsing in my opinion is better on 16:10.

Yes i was supprised how clear the imaged looked @ 1920x1080 on ps3. i was expecting image not to look that good because it was not native, but 720p games look a bit poor.

cheers
