Good evening fellow monitor lovers, I require your help.

My Samsing 223BW is driving me nuts, I've not used it in a while, had it in the spare room collecting dust and today decided to rig it back up, so when I turned it on, it was ok, stayed on for 2 - 3 mons and went blank/black but with the power light still on, thought that it had somehow gone into standby but when I moved the mouse/KB the monitor didn't respond.
Turning the monitor off and on cured the problem but after 2- 3 mins it did the same again.
I've blown the DVi cable both ends for dust, swapping it around, swapping it over on the GPU outputs, tried in safe mode and in BIOS but issue still occurs.
Only thing I havn'y tried is a VGA cable as I don't have one to hand.
I've only moved the monitor it in its verticle position, steadily for about 12 yards.
GPU seems fine as I'm running my HDTV off it via a dongle now and have been for last 9 months.

If anyone can diagnose the problem or let me know if its repairable, It's out of warrenty so any suggestions please help.

Hi,

Have you checked in device manager to see if the monitor is set as your main monitor there? Is the monitor set as main display in the graphics driver settings?

1) I would uninstall the monitor in Device Manager in Windows
2) Install the video drivers again
3) Check to see if the monitor is set as the main display or dual.
$) Tryanother cable
6) Last thoughts, check the power cable is secure and blow the back of the montor with air to get rid of dust.

Oh if that fails try and RMA it.

Regards

Von

Thanks for the reply tried all your suggestions, even tried the monitor on another PC but issue still occurs.

Seems to "trip" out at its own will so I'll take it to repair shop and go from there.

I remember having this same problem with a monitor, but cannot recall if it was on my Samsing 223BW or Acer V223w. But it would work for a while and then go blank. From recollection turning it off and on fixed the problem.

In my case it turned out it was just a bad VGA cable. Ever since I swapped it out for a new cable it has been perfect. Hope it's something as simple as that in your case as well.

Take a look here and here chap. May well be what you're experiencing. Really should get rid of my 226BW before it goes **** up....

EDIT: Didn't know that word was filtered. Well, you learn something new every day.

Cheers, the 1st thread was a big help and seems I've been struck with that problem, I can actually see my monitor try and put out 100% brightness only to fail and stay on 75% before dieing.

I'll give Samsung a ring and see if they will repair or at least advise where at as I aint too handy at soldering.

Hope my TV does't go down this route!

A quick update for anyone concerned, I lowered the Brightness and Contrast manually on the monitor from 100/90 to 75/70 and countered it by upping the values in the Nvidia control panel.

This seems to have cured the problem, it's just how long it will last in this state.
