Hello to all and merry Christmass...

need your help once again for this monitor...

I am very close on getting one and wanted to ask you something...

I 've heard many good words and read quite a few reviews on this panel, however I have come a few rumours regarding backlight bleeding..?

to be honest this is the only factor that stands between the final click on the checkout button.

You ppl that have it... how many have experienced that effect..?
is it something common..? and in this case is it something that you can justify as a defect and RMA the product..? will they change it..?

pls do advise me on this.. as i have a cheaper alternative I am considering.

one more thing... equally important... hows the text reading..?
high clarity.. or it gets fuzzy and tiring in small letters?

tnx all and enjoy your holidays

I have the 225bw and see no issue with backlight bleed, unless you have the brightness almost to the max, then its only slight on a black screen.

I do have a faulty one though as i have a screen flicker which looks like a CRT monitor set to 60Hz refresh.

Samsung are going to collect this faulty one and leave me another, yes i'm annoyed its faulty but their customer service department was brilliant.

Apart from the fault it is a truely amazing monitor.

cool tnx
as I have to admit that bleeding issue had me worried.

I am between this and the new fujitsu which is a bargain... and generally a great monitor...

only reason going for the 225BW is the HD and the guarantee the name Samsung makes me feel...

my 19"crt is also samsung and has served me very well for almost 4 years now :)

hows the text reading??? cause i 've never seen this resolution...
my normal destop is 1280.. i cant really work comfortably in something higher

check out the L22-1W and tell me what you think... i gave a link in another thread

later all

I have this monitor and I do get backlight bleed from the upper and lower edges.

It doesn't bother me at all though.

All depends on how fussy you are. I'm more than happy with this monitor (as I use similar models at work)

THE STAND

THE STAND !!!!
that is the BEST thing about this screen.
you will just never know how useful it is and how much it would be missed if it wasnt there, or fixed in place like cheaper screens.

mine has a lil bit of bleed. but i knew to expect it as its a TFT, simple as.
and its only noticable on completely black screens ... which is rare lol

Has anyone with this monitor noticed a flicker (like the one you get when you set a CRT to 60Hz)?

I currently have this issue, and am awaiting a replacement from Samsung. I'm just paranoid that this is how these monitors are and its not a fault. (i really hope its not because the rest of the monitor features are superb).

You can only see the bleed in a darkened room with the screen displaying a black or very dark picture. In this case the bleed is probably 1cm on both the top and bottom. Watching a 16:9 film in the dark it is very noticeable however it does not encroach on the picture at all in this case so it doesn't bother me any.

in other words you are telling me that if I get this monitor I have to accept the fact that tere is a 90% chance that I will get backligt on the top and bottom edges :(

he thing that worries me is that in this monitor is a bit more common than in others.

I mean ok is it in all... or just in the samsung..?
cause if its to spend 80£ less and get a monitor with no backlight effect then I can easily spend that money on a good VESA stand

the fujitsu-siemens L22-1W is my second choice... same price as the belinea and 10 times better... aluminium bezzel and color responce same as 225BW

If backlight is a concern stay well away from the fujitsu, its shocking for backliht bleed, the sammy on the other hand is probably the least bleedy of the 22's.

hmm I thought it was the otherway around.
that the samsung was the worst case scenario when it comes to light bleed

to be honest I have decided to go for the samsung for quite a while now...
but... i thought maybe I save myself 100£ and get something else ontop :D
an extra HD or stretch a bit more and get a new gfxfor around 150.
cause i've seen the bleed on the fujitsu and for the price difference I can live with it... but to get the same bleed with the samsung will really mAKE ME EAT MY HAT!!!!!

anyways.. thank you all.. and Happy New Year!!!!

This year will deff look bigger and brighter with a 225BW :p

No flickering, a bit of bleed but I don't notice it and it's not bad at all.

The stand is brilliant! You can swivel the screen around nearly 360 degrees, so you can go from having a PC monitor to a TV i.e turn screen towards a sofa or arm chair..

All I need now is my Xbox 360 and I have a great multi purpose screen for not a lot of money.. :D

No flickering here either but can't say I had the wow factor with the 225bw. I received one yesterday and set it up next to my existing Hyundai L90D+. Comments:

Pixels - Unfortunately there was a white dead pixel and 3 dead white sub pixels but at least the subs are barely visible.

Backlight bleed - Actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Yeah it's a bit worse than the Hyundai and for movies it probably shows up a bit more but for general windows use it is not noticeable.

Colour - Lacking to me... bit washed out I thought. Unfortunately the osd colour software is either off or stupidly oversaturated. Balance-wise it seems fairly good though, after an hour of tweaking anyway.
However it still suffers the same grey dithering issue that the Hyundai had 2 years ago. I thought the algorithm in the 225 was one of the better ones...

Contrast - For me this is where it seems a bit disappointing, compared to the Hyundai at least. The image is a bit flatter and less 3d and it makes you want to turn the contrast up to make it stand out. But if you do that then the bright parts of the image over expose. Overall it just doesn't look as vibrant.

Pros - Well obviously widescreen and more real estate is great, the stand is nice, low power consumption in standby etc, no ghosting (or at least no worse then the Hyundai), very nice clear text.

Not sure whether to keep it though, or if there is anything better to be honest. I looked at the Asus but colours seemed to be well off. Maybe I won't care after a few weeks and it is only when you put them side by side do you notice things like this. It just feels a bit one step forward and one step back :)

Colour lacking ? I've owned about 20-30 tft's so far and I'd say that the 225BW was one of the most colourfull screens I ever owned, have you switched Colour Magic on in the options menu ?, switch it to intelligent, I think it increases the colour in quite a well controlled manner for a TN panel.

out of intrest what panel was inside your Hyundai ?

interesting that you say that then... I did try the Colour Magic but it seems so over the top. Makes me think of people slapping on the range tan gunk! :)

The panel in the hyundai.... got me there. I did look it up originally but I forget now. I was thinking AOU but now not so sure. I have ATI but I remember the Vibrance settings on Nvidia drivers being quite pleasant at low setting. I just feel that the 225 needs a little kick.
